If you have purchased a P+S item, congratulations!

As you know, all P+S items are made with natural, solid materials. All P+S wood items have also been finished with natural oils and waxes to enhance their natural beauty, and brass details have been hand polished.

To help ensure your purchase has lasting value, here are some tips for caring for your items.

Wood:

Because wood is a natural material, it is influenced by its environment. Wood placed in direct sunlight (UV light) for consistently long periods of time may show signs of color shifts. Those items which do not come into contact with food have been finished with a Danish oil and wax. A light amount of natural paste wax can be applied with a soft cloth, if needed, after time.

If you have purchased an item that will be in contact with food, be assured that prior to receiving your item it has been treated with a food safe mineral oil and beeswax. To continue to maintain the integrity of the wood, I recommend cleaning it with a mild detergent and immediately drying it. You should never submerge the item or allow the wood to soak in water or other liquids. This will negatively impact the integrity of the wood. In addition, you may consider periodically applying a conditioner of mineral oil and beeswax. This is available in liquid form in many hardware stores or online and is easily applied. I recommend Howard Butcher Block Conditioner.

Metal:

Many of the items have solid brass details. As you are probably aware, all metals can develop a natural patina over time. This is a result of environmental oxidation and from natural oils we impart from handling the metal. For some, this is a natural enhancement. If you wish to maintain the original finish, you may choose to periodically buff the metal with a polishing cloth.
